About SOIS: "Looking back on my time at SOIS, I remember how it was and still feels like a second home. My teachers were always there to support my growth and learning, but to also challenge me academically and mentally. My friends and peers not only became part of my many fond memories but also inspired me every day and I am thankful to have made some lifelong friendships. Most of all, every single person I have had the fortune of knowing at SOIS made me feel that I am an important individual of this close-knit community. This is something that has always warmed my heart and motivates me to strive to learn from myself and others and to make contributions to society."

Name: Masae Yamanaka
University: University of Southern California (USA)
Major: Double major in Economics and Linguistics/East Asian Languages and Culture
Career Goal: To teach language acquisition and linguistics
Extra-curricular: Basketball intramural, Chinese American Student Association, Taiwanese American Organization, Campus Crusade for Christ
Languages: English, Japanese, Chinese
About SOIS: "The close interaction with SIS gave me the opportunity to explore Japanese culture and mentality on a daily basis. Although the language barrier made it difficult to truly ‘connect’ with the other school at first, that obstacle quickly disappears since everyone wants to communicate. The connection allows more perspectives to be considered, creating an even more complete international experience. On top of this unique bond, the combination of small classes and the IB program equipped me with the knowledge required to excel in competitive, challenging university courses."

Name: Yuki Ohsaka
University: Columbia University (New York, USA)
Major: Postgraduate degree in International Social Welfare
Career Goal: To improve access to financial services for low income or impoverished communities

About SOIS: "As someone who had never lived overseas before, I initially found the diversity of students' backgrounds at SOIS a little intimidating, but soon came to appreciate the opportunities that this provided for me. I developed skills to communicate with people from different cultures, culminating with a year's homestay in Germany. Both the school, and the overseas exchange, were life-changing experiences for me."

Career Goal: To utilize my language skill in a foreign affiliated pharmaceutical company and be successful as a global worker
Extra-curricular: English tutor, student staff at Saturday School, tennis circle, part-time work, etc.

About SOIS: "The reason why I was able to get used to SOIS immediately after the enrollment was because this school had an international environment and friendly teachers/students. Since this school provides opportunities to be around people with various backgrounds and get involved in many activities, it is a perfect place to discover what you do best or what you love to do. SOIS not only has great English programs, it pays respect to the individual personality of every person. I believe that that is why I managed to maintain my English skills and could follow my own interest in science courses. I will never forget all the great memories of SOIS."

Name: Rena Iwasaki
University: Trinity Western University (Vancouver, Canada)
Major: Natural & Applied Science (Biology, Psychology)
Career Goal: Genetic counselling (primarily for cancer)
Extra-curricular: Dance team, biology lab assistant, Communitas Supportive Care Society volunteer, Student Council representative for Department of Humanities and Social Sciences
Languages: English, Japanese
About SOIS: "I still remember that I could not even pronounce, “excuse me” and I could not make any friends from OIS because of my low English level when I enrolled SIS in 2007. In contrast, by the time I graduated SIS in 2013, I was comfortable spending time with both SIS and OIS students. Moreover, now I study in Canada and take lectures in English everyday. If it were not for SIS, I would definitely not be the same person as I am today. However, SIS has offered me than the opportunity to improve my English ability. The school’s theme, 'Five Respects' has taught me so much, and it continuously encourages me to love learning."
