Annual School Events

Annual School Events Overview

We have four major school events which are held annually and see the communities of our two schools working side by side. Students and teachers take the lead in organising the School Festival in spring, Sports Day in fall, and the All School Production in winter, while parents are the driving force behind the International Fair in November. All four events offer excellent opportunities for students to learn cooperation, teamwork and leadership skills while making memories that will last a lifetime.

All School Production

In the winter trimester, our attention turns to The All School Production, an extravaganza of singing, dancing and acting. It brings together the hard work and dedication of students, teachers, and parents from both schools and of all ages, from elementary, middle and high school. Students and staff work together on performing, creating props and sets, making costumes, working on lights, sound, hair, make-up, posters, tickets… the list goes on. The work culminates with four performances in the middle of February and is another event in which new skills and talents are discovered while creating friendships and memories to last a lifetime.

This year’s All School Production is the much loved fairytale with a twist, Shrek The Musical! We look forward to taking you on a singing, dancing, laughing, crying roller-coaster ride with Shrek, Donkey, Fiona and a colourful cast of over 70 characters!

You can join us on the journey at the following times:

Friday, February 15th from 6:00

International Fair

Held in November, the International Fair brings together the formidable organizational power of our two Parent Associations. Showcasing the multicultural nature of our community, it offers foods, performances, games and goods from around the world ensuring a fun-filled day out for all. An added bonus is that all profits from the day go towards school improvement projects.

The 2018 annual international fair will take place on Saturday 17 November from 10:30. All welcome. An event guide and bus information can be viewed or downloaded using the link below.

School Festival

Planned, prepared and run by the SOIS student council, the School Festival is our big event of the spring trimester. Each homeroom class and a number of cultural clubs contribute to the day with projects such as food stalls, games, theatrical and musical performances and exhibitions. Profits from the event are donated to good causes. In keeping with our mission statement, the festival encourages students to become informed, caring, creative and to contribute to the global community.

Sports Day

Compared to a one-day Olympics, the SOIS Sports Day is held in October and is a thrilling day for students faculty and families. As with the school festival, the entire event is student-led, with the two-school student council and student committees leading and organizing the planning and the implementation of the activities. These range from highly competitive dodge ball, ultimate frisbee and athletic relay races to the more cooperative jump rope and dance performances. At middle school the focus is on team-building and cooperation while things become more competitive in high school with the seniors always determined to win their final Sports Day! It is one of the highlights of our school calendar and with cheers, hugs and tears, friendships and memories are formed by all.
